5 Ways for Employees to Save in Times of Recession

  1. Join Carpool or Public Transportation. To save cost on gasoline, at least once a week, schedule car sharing for employees in your area that works in the same or nearby location as yours. You can also ride a bus or train or other public mode of transport
  2. Utilize Freebies in Your Office. Instead of buying three $5 coffees everyday, you might want to make your own coffee or juice that’s offered at your office’s pantry.
  3. Bonus = Savings. Remember that as much as possible savings should be FIXED and should NOT be the difference between your income and expense. Whenever you have bonuses or extra cash, don’t think twice. Save all, if not, at least a big chunk of it
  4. Have Packed Lunch. In our office, more and more employees are bringing their own lunch instead of buying or dining in restaurants. They have some lunch get-together in the pantry and wash their own utensils in the office’s copper sinks.
  5. Use Piggy Bank. Old school but effective. If you can spare a dollar or two everyday, you’ll be surprised at how much you’ve saved by the end of the year. Remember, for this to be effective, DO NOT put in large amounts because you might be tempted to use it before it gets full. Just drop in a few coins daily.
