Depression Counseling Can Be The Light At The End Of The Tunnel
When you’re feeling depressed, it’s always good to have someone to chat with. Sometimes it just takes a minutes to feel better. But, when days blur together and each one seems a bit worse than the next, this is a sure sign that something should be done. Seeking depression counseling is often a much needed solution. Depression counseling Denver is also sometimes the only way to battle this illness.
Feeling the need for this sort of counseling shouldn’t cause you to feel inadequate. Many people feel like they have failed at solving their own problems, when they seek counseling. This shouldn’t be the case. Just because you’ve decided to share your deepest problems with a licensed professional, this doesn’t mean that you’ve failed at all. It just goes to show that you’ve come to realize you don’t need to fight this battle all on your own.
Being able to have someone to talk to who is able to provide support during your time of need is a great feeling. This person is able to not only provide a listening ear, but can also give you plenty of reasons for looking forward to tomorrow. Some counselors have actual offices to visit them at, while others are able to be reached on the phone. Talking with a counselor over the phone is sometimes the only way that people without transportation or child care are able to get the help they need.
There is online counseling available for those who have internet access. This is another convenient way to talk with a counselor and can be done on your own time. Many of these services are free to the public, which is very helpful to individuals who would otherwise not have a way to seek help with their depression. Even though the internet can be a very public place at times, these online sessions are very discreet and privacy is guaranteed.
Counselors are capable of not only being able to listen to what is said to them, but they are also able to provide reassurance that the future will get better. They work on discouraging negative behavior and reinforcing any positive behaviors that are present. Being able to educate the family about what is going on with the patient is also helpful. By having a large supply of supportive individuals, fighting depression will be much easier.
One way that counselors are able to provide reassurance for people fighting depression is by instilling lots of hope that the future will be brighter. A mindset that counselors try to put people in is by getting to think of themselves as a cork.
To teach people that they need to be like a cork; nothing and no one should be able to hold them down. Reinforcing positive behaviors is done in a variety of ways; keeping a journal, finding pleasurable things to do, realizing that anti depressants don’t have to become a daily part of life and that these medications aren’t habit forming.
There are many parts to depression counseling and it doesn’t cure depression overnight. This service does provide the much needed support to get through an ongoing battle with depression, whether it has only just begun or has been raging for years.

Getting to Know the Issues Behind Tendon Strain and Pain
No matter how it’s described, everyone agrees that a tendon strain is extremely painful. Usually a tendon strain means that due to something that caused the injury, the tendons inside were abnormally stretched. Put simply, tendons tie our bones to our muscles and they can be injured in playing sports, for example, or when an ankle twists wrongly.
There are different degrees of tendon injury. The worst of these of course, are stretching a tendon to the point of tendon rupture. You can suffer such tendon injuries during a fall, playing sports or even by overuse.
The arms, legs, feet and wrists can all be at risk of tendon strain when there is excessive stress and force placed on these tendons. Improperly lifting weights can cause tendon strain in weightlifters. Skiers may be at risk of a common tendon strain while falling that can tear the rotator cuff tendon in the shoulders.
Just above the heel is the Achilles tendon, it can be overstretched when you twist your foot. Since this area works to propel the body forward while walking or running, this area takes on a good deal of strain. Tendon strain can occur while standing on your tiptoes, especially when this tendon is not moving properly before sustaining an injury.
A tendon strain is treated in different manners depending on the amount of injury of course. If the tendon has snapped, immediate surgery is recommended, as the injury may be permanent, resulting in permanent disability if medical treatment in the form of surgery is not received.
Otherwise, a tendon strain will be treated by the application of R.I.C.E. This stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. However, the amount of rest that is the correct amount has been debated recently. If there is too much rest, without any stretching of the tendon, there will be a foreshortening of the tendon, and this will cause further medical problems. Medical authorities now agree that there should be slow stretching done at least a few times a day to the injured tendon to prevent this likelihood from occurring.
Ice should never be left on the area for more than twenty minutes at a time; you will also need to cover the area in order to protect the skin from direct contact with the ice. Some swelling will occur in the injured area; however, ice can help to prevent swelling.
You can limit swelling by using a compress, however do be sure not make the compress too tight by the use of say an ace bandage.
Elevation is helpful for reducing swelling; however, you should make sure that you do not elevate the area higher than your heart to get the best results of elevation.
You also need to keep your range of motion after such an injury. You will need to exercise the area; however, you do need to be very careful while doing so. You may apply heat for no more than twenty minutes at a time after the swelling has gone completely down in the area. Strengthening exercises are vital after a complete recovery.

Things to Know About Your New Knee
There are a few physical differences between your new knee and your old knee. For one thing, you may feel a little numbness and stiffness around your new knee. Excessive bending may tend to increase the stiffness. Your new knee may not have quite the ROM (range of motion) your old knee had. Nonetheless, you are sure to find your new knee is an improvement over your old knee.
You may find kneeling difficult, but rest assured, kneeling will not hurt your new knee. You may also hear a bit of quiet clicking from time to time. This is caused by the flexion of the metal and plastic as you walk and bend. This will lessen as time passes. Most patients have no problem adjusting to it. Surely they find it less distressing than the pain and restricted activities they suffered with their old knee.
You will probably be about as active after your surgery as before, and your ability to move will be about the same. You should be able to straighten your knee as needed and bend it well enough to climb stairs and get in and out of your car.

Metal detectors may sound when you try to enter federal buildings and the airport. Be sure to let the security guards know about your new knee so there wont be any misunderstandings.
Here is an after surgery reminder list:
Be extra careful not to hurt yourself or to fall. If you have a fracture after your knee surgery, you will just need more surgery.
Trust your orthopedist. He or she is also a medical doctor. Therefore, a lot of training backs up his or her diagnosis and treatment plan. Your orthopedist is familiar with the musculoskeletal system (bones, nerves, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons) and fully capable of determining both surgical and non-surgical treatments.
Anytime you have dental work done, be sure to inform your dentist about your knee replacement. You will need to take preventative antibiotics to avoid infection. This will be a lifelong necessity.
Participate in light exercise regularly from now on. This will keep your new knee strong and flexible.

Modern Aroma Medicine: Essential Oils for Influenza Protection?
As the news of influenza is seen everywhere we turn, more and more people are seeking every available means to support their immune system and potentially prevent the infection by any number of serious viral contagions — most notably these days is “Swine Flu”, though there may be more in our future. Historically, essential oils have been used during major plagues as a means to prevent infection. Pictures can be found in natural medicine textbooks of medical practitioners wearing facemasks stuffed with cinnamon, cloves, sage and other botanicals to ward of illness. Today’s leading professional aromatherapists also suggest the most important use of essential oils for humanity will be in the treatment and prevention of such infectious illnesses. Are essential oils a viable option as an alternative therapy for home use? Here’s a look at the scientific research, as well as formulas and practices to make use of aromatic medicines.
Research on Essential Oils as AntiViral Agents
In the last few years, more laboratory research has been performed revealing the ability of essential oils to actually destroy viruses. In addition, a limited number of papers have been presented noted that oils alter our cells in such a way as to prevent viruses moving between cells, thereby preventing the spread of infection. All the data referred to in this paper is available online through the Pub Med database, free of charge. To see these yourself, simply search for Pub Med, then enter terms such as “antiviral essential oil”, “essential oil virus”, “essential oil immune” and the like. This is an excellent way to further motivate yourself to get the most from aromatherapy oil use.
What Does the Data Mean?
With more than one hundred published research papers on the subject, a summary is in order. What scientists are finding is that many of the essential oils commonly in use today have antiviral properties. Whether an oil is effective against a particular virus depends upon the natural chemical makeup of the oil and the structure of the virus being studied. The data, without a doubt, is very encouraging. One study performed in Germany this year concluded with the note that Tea Tree was able to “reduce viral infectivity by greater than 96 percent”. The same study went on to clarify that the whole, natural oil, rather than any single chemical synthetically extracted, was up to TEN TIMES more effective as an antiviral agent. The precise reason for this is not known — it is clear that some of the most chemically complex oils exhibit the greatest antiviral effects, and perhaps this mixture of nature’s chemicals attacks the virus AND supports immune function is several ways at once.
One Pandemic Virus and The Oil of Laurel Leaf
Many of the studies utilize the Herpes Simplex Virus as a “test subject”, because of the widespread prevalence of infection, along with the relative ease of testing. However, if one digs into the data, many papers present information relevant in in influenza pandemic. SARS ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome’ is caused by the highly infectious SARS-CoV virus that made world-wide news in 2003. A study in the March 2008 Journal of Chemical Biodiversity noted Bay Laurel essential oil to have significant antiviral action against this virus. They’d also noted the natural constituents of this oil, which are also found in a great many other essential oils. This is why you’ll see MANY essential oils noted as antivirals — because many oils share similar natural chemical constituents. So while this next oil is not readily available, the data is very interesting. In 2005, Chinese researchers evaluated the anti-influenza potential of the essential oil from a root used in Chinese medicine, concluding: “In vivo…it prevented influenza virus-induced deaths in a dose-dependent manner”. And the list of oil/virus combinations goes on and on. But this begs the question: how do we derive a formula for Swine Flu prevention?
Selecting Oils For Daily Flu Protection
It is this sharing of natural compounds that supports the literature’s assertion that there are a great many oils in use today that are antiviral — one reason you’ll typically see several oils, not just one, in an antiviral formula. But which oils to use for your needs? This is where the long-time historical practice of aroma-medicine therapists helps us choose. The antiviral and immune-supportive essential oils have been categorized by the symptoms the infection produces. The Cineol-containing oils, like Eucalyptus and Ravensara are chosen where the bronchial system is affected. Melissa and Tea Tree are most commonly used for viruses infecting the skin — though their antiviral action for other parts of the body should not be ignored, because their synergistic effects with other oils creates a formula with a complex mixture of natural chemicals — similar in respect to the balance found in the single oil Bay Laurel. Other oils are highly regarded for their positive effect on the immune system overall: Frankincense is considered by some to be the most potent immunostimulant, and Melissa has this property as well.
A short list of essential oils that one can select from to support immunity against influenza infection includes the following: Melissa (having significant anti-HSV activity, it is also thought to be a potent immunostimulant — boosting the ability of our immune defense), Tea Tree (a very broad spectrum antiviral/antimicrobial), Rosalina (also known as Lavender Tea Tree, with a natural chemical profile containing constituents of both these oils), Lavender (commonly used as an anti-stress agent — which itself supports immune system function — and also having antiviral action), Bay Laurel (Laurel Leaf, reported effective against SARS-CoV), Ravensara aromatica, Eucalyptus Radiata (one of many Eucalyptus species, this one is most often noted as “antiviral”), Frankincense (considered by some the most effective immunostimulant oil available), Thyme, and Hyssop decumbens (a highly regarded antiviral, with a highly complex natural chemistry makeup).
A Balanced Formula To Make At Home
A blend can be made using the following oils (and this complete formula can then be adapted to different applications as we’ll see): 1 milliliter (ml) Melissa, 1/2ml Thyme, 2ml Lavender (use Lavendula angustifolia), 1 and 1/2 ml Ravensara aromatica, 2ml Eucalyptus Radiata, 1 and 1/2 ml Hyssop decumbens, 3 ml Maleleuca ericifolia and 3ml Laurus Nobilis (Bay Laurel). A simpler, yet still effective formula with a more gentle nature — and more appropriate for children: 4ml Lavender, 3ml Melaleuca ericifolia, 1ml Ravensara, 1ml Eucalyptus, and 3ml Bay Laurel. While having a medicinal purpose, these blends do really smell wonderful as well.
How To Use The Oils for Influenza Prevention: Diffusion
The most knowledgeable and experienced practitioners believe diffusing this oil blend is the best way to give the most comprehensive support for both antiviral and immune system support. A cold-air nebulizing diffuser will make a fine mist of the essential oils, which quickly evaporates into the air in your home, office or other enclosed space. Typically, these diffusers are run for a few minutes every hour, getting oils into the air but not overdoing it. This conserves the oils, but allows continuous low-dose inhalation. One should never feel overwhelmed by the aroma; the oils are very potent, and typically “less is more” when using 100% pure therapeutic-grade essential oils. The use of an appliance timer can make this process very simple: just set the timer to run a few minutes every hour throughout the day — that’s it! Not only is the air being disinfected, but folks in the room are getting small amounts of oil in their bodies all the time. Again, it’s important to not feel more is more in this situation! Trust your instincts on the amount of diffusion necessary for your space and needs.
Topical Application and Baths
Immune-protection topical oil blends can be easily mixed, putting the essential oil formula in a carrier oil such as Coconut or Jojoba. This concoction can then be massaged daily into the feet (a highly receptive area of the body) or into regions of lymph nodes: the neck, armpits and sternum. Adding the essential oils to a carrier at a 5 to 10% concentration is suitable (10% would be 1 part essential oil mixture to 9 parts carrier oil). If you’d like to use a topical formula for children, use the “children’s” recipe above, and lower the concentration in the carrier oil to 1% for ages 2-4, 2% for 5-7, 3% for 8-12 (a 1% concentration is 8 drops total essential oils in each fluid ounce of carrier, 2% is 16 drops per ounce, etc). Soaking in a bath with oils added to the water is also an excellent way to gain their benefits — for young kids, add 2 drops essential oil to a teaspoon of ANY carrier oil (olive oil from the kitchen will do fine), then swirl this into the bath once it’s been drawn. 4 drops essential oil blend for older children, and 6 drops for adults.
The Future of Aromatherapy: Aroma Medicine
While we cannot be certain of the direct effects of essential oils for our needs, it appears to the lay practitioner that the evidence supporting their use is just and solid as for any other natural medicine choice. Recall that the world’s leading aromatherapists suggest that it is in the prevention and treatment of infectious illness that essential oils will find their place in our medical systems. Given the data that so many essential oils offer antiviral activity against a variety of viruses, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that they will be effective as Swine flu prevention. And with their relative ease of use, and ready availability, there’s little reason not to see what they may have to offer for you and your family.

Volcano Vaporizer Found To Be Effective In Lab
A volcano vaporizer is a machine that looks similar to a volcano and uses heated blown air to vaporize the active parts in herbs and force the resulting vapor into a bag. The bag then holds the gas which can be inhaled straight from the bag at the pleasure of the smoker.
One of the main advantages of this kind of vaporizer is that it can be finely adjusted to heat plants to specific temperatures. This permits just desired chemicals to be boiled away and consumed.
Most of the danger of smoking is because of the burning of plant matter which contains the toxins vaporization reduces. Because vaporization is a healthier delivery method a number of medical her patients use it.
The Volcano Vaporizer is a premium brand device made by Storz & Bickle, a German vaporization firm, though the term now means upright vaporizers that utilize hot air convection.
Volcano vaporizers are known for their extreme efficiency in vaporizing active elements with little unwanted harmful toxins. Many delighted users will quickly provide anecdotes and descriptions of their experiences with vaporizers if asked.
Clinical labs have even experimented with volcano units to find out exactly how accurate and effective they are. Most studies were performed in an attempt to find if vaporization has a future in medicine and health. There are many people eager to explore the possibilities of vaporization for patients.
These studies have all found evidence strengthening the notion of vaporization as one of the best methods for medical ingestion. In a controlled setting the volcano vaporizer was found to produce vapor with much less harmful substances than combusted smoke.
If you are considering vaporization it is now simpler to get started than ever. Many modern vaporizers, including the Volcano, come with digital control mechanisms which makes fine temperature control easy.
It is really the precision of the volcano that makes it stand out over other machines and what provides the pure vapor, the essence of any vaporizer function.

How Do Hair Removal Treatments Work?
Before laser and IPL devices entered the market, electrolysis was the only form of permanent or long-term hair removal available. Electrolysis is still performed today, but it is painful and invasive to the skin, allowing for a chance of infection. Unfortunately, this painstaking process is performed one hair follicle at a time. During the electrolysis procedure, a fine needle is inserted into the hair follicle, delivering a galvanic current to destruct the follicle stem cells. Regular maintenance procedures are often required for years after the initial treatment.
In contrast, with laser and pulsed light technology, hundreds of hair follicles are treated at a time and vary upon the spot size (the size of the tip of the device delivering energy). These hair removal procedures are non-invasive and take only minutes to perform instead of the many hours with electrolysis.
What is Melanin?
Laser hair removal is based on selective photothermolysis (using light and heat for destruction of a hair follicle) with melanin being the target chromophore (chemical grouping that produces color). The most important consideration prior to laser hair removal procedures is the patient’s hair color and skin type. The difference between the absorption of laser or light energy by melanin in the hair follicle and melanin in the epidermis determines the amount of energy that can be safely used without harming the skin.
Light skinned patients with dark hair are considered to be the ideal patients for hair removal On the other hand, a patient with very dark skin and gray or white hair, would have little if any response. Since melanin in the hair shaft and follicle are the target source for laser and IPL hair removal procedures, it is important for patients during their initial consultation not to tweeze, wax or use any depilatory device prior to hair removal. The patient can, however, shave the area to be treated (which preserves the chromophore in the follicle), or can use hair removal creams. Hair which is protruding from the skin can singe during a laser or light treatment which causes an unpleasant smell and possible flares.
Treatment Day
Most devices technically operate the same way when performing a hair removal. The parameters on the equipment should be adjusted according to the history and skin analysis of the patient. The patient should be instructed to refrain from using any body washes, lotions, cosmetics, or any skin medications the day of treatment. Some patients may prefer to have a topical anesthetic applied prior to the procedure. If any residue of the anesthetic remains, it should be wiped clean from the skin. It is also important for patients to avoid dark clothing near the area to be treated as the dye in the clothing can be absorbed by the laser or light resulting in a painful burn. A patch test should be performed on the intended treatment area. Several monthly treatments are recommended for the best results and a yearly maintenance procedure is recommended.

One of the biggest controversies surrounding milk is the amount of hormones often found in it. Hormones given to the cows to enable them to produce more milk are often passed on into the milk we drink. Some people feel that these extra hormones can do damage to our bodies when we regularly consume them.

Why More And More People Are Going For Liposuction
Excess weight is probably the most common problem today, and people around the world are constantly searching for effective weight loss methods. Liposuction is one of the procedures that can be used for removing excess fat from particular areas of the body through a surgical procedure.
The technique removes excessive fat from the body by making an incision in the body and sucking out the excess fat by means of a suction device, called cannula. When compared to the different conventional means of weight loss, Liposuction has certain benefits as mentioned below.
Liposuction helps you to lose several pounds within hours. Most of the other weight reduction techniques like dieting or following a rigorous workout regime need a lot of strenuous effort for months, and it is tough to maintain your motivation for such a long period. However, lipo not just helps you shed the few extra pounds instantaneously, but it also encourages you to maintain your figure without resorting to rigorous exercises.
Practices like strict dieting mostly result in a lot of side effects and can easily give rise to health problems. However, liposuction as a technique is not just safer but is also free from serious adverse effects on your health. Whatever light cuts or marks that remain following the surgery are temporary and they normally heal quickly.
Liposuction has been known to be particularly effective in removal of fat from thighs and certain other areas of the body that are difficult to deal with otherwise. Liposuction can in fact guarantee significant fat loss from almost any part of the body as desired.
No doubt that there are numerous advantages of undergoing liposuction, but you should not lose sight of the fact that it is a surgery nonetheless. It is advisable that before you decide on whether to go for the surgery, you take advice from a competent physician and make sure that the process won’t lead to any adverse effects on your body. Moreover, keep in mind that the procedure might require you to take a brief period of rest from work before returning to normal routine.

Before we begin, let’s briefly explain what causes cold sores.
Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are the result of the Herpes Simplex Virus I (HSV I). Note that this is different from the genital herpes virus.
HSV I is a chronic virus that is easily passed from one person to another. It is so common that it is present in 80% of the population, and most people get HSV I before they turn seven years old. Once you have the virus, you’ll have it for life. Most of the time it remains inactive, until something happens to trigger a cold sore outbreak.
When outbreaks occur, the result is painful and unattractive sores around the mouth and lips. These happen when the normally inactive herpes virus is triggered.
Cold Sore Tips ? Preventing Outbreaks
So, how does the normally inactive HSV I virus become activated? There are a variety of triggers, including:
? Stress ? Poor immune system ? Sickness ? Pregnancy or menstruation ? Injury or irritation of the lips and mouth
In a nutshell, anything that creates too much stress or overburdens the body can cause the formation of cold sores. So, the way to prevent cold sore outbreaks is to control these environmental triggers.
In the case of pregnancy or menstrual-related outbreaks, hormonal triggers can’t be controlled. Fortunately, there are ways to strengthen the body’s defenses.
A variety of supplements and drugstore products exist that can aid in preventing cold sores. Your strategy should include avoiding injuries to the lips and mouth as a result of overexposure to the sun and chapping. You should also eat a healthy diet that reinforces the immune system, and use a natural lip balm to soothe dry lips.
Cold Sore Tips for Effective Treatment
Prevention is all well and good, but what do you if you need to relieve symptoms of an outbreak that’s already under way?
The following cold sore tips can help you get relief:
? Use a topical medication to numb the pain. Examples include “caine” medicines, like lidocaine and benzocaine. You can also use preparations like benzoyl alcohol or a phenol-containing formulation.
? Apply an antibacterial product to prevent the sores from getting infected.
? Use a good salve to moisturize the sores and prevent them from scabbing and scarring.
? There is evidence showing that zinc and lysine supplements may help end cold sore outbreaks faster. Zinc is also known as an immune booster.
The surest way to prevent cold sores is by taking care of yourself with a whole-foods diet, exercise, and good supplement program that keeps your immune system strong and healthy. Sleep well, and make sure you learn to deal effectively with stress.
While the best course of action is a good prevention plan, if you do end up with a cold sore breakout, use these simple cold sore tips to help soothe your discomfort and end your breakout faster.
